Operating System Security
This course focuses on the principles, mechanisms, and techniques used to secure modern operating systems against unauthorized access, vulnerabilities, attacks, and system compromise. Students study Linux and Windows security, including authentication, authorization, access control (DAC, MAC, RBAC), privilege management, process and memory protection, secure configuration, auditing, and system monitoring.
The course also covers major OS attacks and vulnerabilities, such as privilege escalation, memory-based attacks, credential attacks, malicious processes, rootkits, and persistence techniques. Students analyze defensive mechanisms.
