Spatial Statistics and Geographic Information Systems
This course provides an in-depth introduction to the use of spatial statistics and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for analyzing spatial data.
Students will explore methods for studying local phenomena around point sources, conducting geographical correlation studies, and understanding the strengths and limitations of spatial analyses.
The course also covers the structure and uses of GIS, including basic definitions, essential elements for GIS implementation, rules for cartographic representation, and methods for analyzing spatial relationships.
Emphasis is placed on applying GIS in epidemiological studies, using spatial statistical methods such as cluster detection, global clustering, disease mapping, and regression models to understand spatial patterns and support decision-making in real-world contexts.
